Startup 2.0 15-16/6 in Bilbao: Game developers heads up

Game developers from all over Europe are called this year to present their projects to Startup 2.0 2012 On Gaming!, the European competition aimed since 2007 at promoting technology based entrepreneurs.Registration for game developers is opened from May 14th to 30th 2012 for startup companies and individuals.


Any startup company (not older than 2008) or individual person from a European country (widely considered, as in the Eurovision song contest) having developed a GAME.

Individuals and companies can submit as many projects as they wish. Anonymous projects will not be accepted, nor projects in development.

Project submission

Games must include interaction with a user interface and any kind of user challenging and rewarding.

All kind of serious (scientific, education, city planning...), social, entertainment (sport, action, strategy, role-playing...) and simulation/training game developers can submit their projects.

Regarding the display devices, all computing, console, mobile (smartphone and tablets) and online platforms are accepted.

Call for entries will be opened from May 14th to 30th trough this form on the web site.


The 5 finalists will have the opportunity to present their projects in Nonick, the International Internet Trends Conference held in Bilbao since 2009. The organisation will cover all travel, accomodation and allowance expences to come and stay in Bilbao.

Last year, more than 2,000 investors and specialists followed the online streaming and 250 took part in Nonick while the projects were being showed.

Since the first edition in 2007, different startups have been financed or acquired as a result of Startup 2.0: Sclipo, 5min, Nvivo, 11870 , Panoramio or Bubok are some of the successful cases.

Online voting and jury

1. First all submitted projects are reviewed by the advisory board and later voted on facebook by all users in the Startup 2.0 voting application until May 30th.

2. Among the 20 most voted projects on Facebook, a Jury formed by 10 VCs and gaming experts from all over Europe, will select the 5 finalists. Their decisions are taken by majority of votes and based on businesssense and growth expectations, innovation, degree of competition in their market, quality of the presentation and, in its case, the video sent to the contest and the team.

3. Investors, specialists and developers assisting to final round in Nonick Conference on June the 15th and 16th will select the winner.

Special Prizes

ArcticStartup will offer to the winning team 2 free tickets to Arctic15, the annual conference for Nordic and Baltic growth entrepreneurs that will be held in Helsinki in October 17th and 18th, which includes a startup competition.

The 5 finalists will receive a 60% discount on tickets to The Next Conference in Amsterdam 2013.

Microsoft Bizspark Spain will reward one of the developers with a Nokia Lumia 800. To be eligible for this prize, game must be native applications of Windows Phone, applications Metro of Windows 8 or with its backend hosted in Windows Azure made by Spanish developers.

Wayra will also provide finalists with an special present.

Beaz, The Regional Innovation Agency, will rewrad one of the participants with a special prize consisting of financial support for investment, business plan advice and logistic help for its office establishment in the county of Bizkaia.
